A modal window, also known as a modal dialog or modal popup », is a graphical user interface element that appears on top of the current page or application and temporarily disables interaction with the rest of the content. It typically contains information or a prompt that requires the user’s attention, such as a confirmation message, a warning or a request for input. Modal windows often have a distinctive appearance, with a prominent title, a close button and a background overlay that darkens the rest of the content. They are commonly used in web and mobile applications to display additional information without requiring the user to navigate away from the current page. However, excessive use of modal windows can be disruptive to the user experience and therefore should be avoided.
