In design, a gradient refers to a gradual transition between two or more colours, creating a visual effect of a smooth and continuous progression from one colour to another. Gradients are commonly used in web design, graphic design and UI design. They are applied to various design elements such as backgrounds, images and text to add depth, dimension and visual interest to a design. A gradient can be linear, radial, or angular, and the colours can be chosen to create a range of effects and a sense of depth, energy or emotion. However, it is important to note: Gradients should be used sparingly and only if they truly add to a design – not as a substitute for (good) design.
