Redundant encoding refers to the combination of colours, shapes, symbols and contrasts to facilitate the perception and interpretation of information. Redundant encoding is particularly relevant for operator displays of critical systems, the incorrect operation of which would have a catastrophic impact on people, the environment or the financial security (sometimes of an entire state).
