The Biorower S1club is an intelligent rowing ergometer that trains strength and rowing-specific movements in a realistic manner – out of the water and in any season. The connected product also shows training data via app in real time on a 10″ display. This data can be analysed during training and shared with the community.
The design of sports equipment, especially of fitness machines, follows its own set of rules that our product design team had to consider. On the one hand, the ergonomics of using the product always come first before any aesthetic considerations. On the other hand, the product needs to stand out in a highly competitive market. Unique selling points therefore had to be communicated very clearly.
The designed shape of the ergometer signals the direction of movement and echoes the dynamics of the rudder movement. Moving parts such as mechanics and electronic components are protected by streamlined plastic cladding. It is manufactured using deep-drawing techniques and prevents injuries or pinch points.
Since the product and its design were developed in parallel, this project required particularly consistent coordination between our design team and the client’s development team. The work proved successful: The ergometer even won the prestigious ISPO Brandnew Award for its realistic rowing feeling ».
Measurable sustainability is important to us. That is why we use circular design » approaches in product design whenever it is possible for us and our clients.
In this project, the following criteria for effective sustainability were carefully selected and applied:
