How does PESCHKE consider ergonomics and usability in the design process?

Ergonomics and usability are considered from the very beginning of our process. We analyse who uses the product, in which environment it is used and which tasks are involved. From this, we derive requirements for operation, maintenance, occupational safety, accessibility, visibility, reach zones and user guidance. Depending on the project, we test concepts using sketches, mock-ups and prototypes to create products that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also efficient and intuitive to use.

How do product designers ensure that designs are technically feasible?

Technical feasibility is considered as early as the concept phase. We do not design purely in theory; we take construction, manufacturing, materials, assembly, maintenance, costs and technical constraints into account from the start. Through close coordination with engineering, construction and production teams, design ideas can be gradually refined and adapted to real-world requirements.

Does PESCHKE work closely with construction and engineering teams?

Yes. Especially for capital goods, machines and technically complex products, collaboration with construction and engineering is a central part of our process. We do not see industrial design as purely formal styling, but as a connection between user needs, brand identity, technical feasibility and economic implementation. Wherever possible, we accompany projects through to technical implementation and series production.

What role do materials and manufacturing play in the design process?

Materials, surfaces and manufacturing processes have a major influence on appearance, function, cost, sustainability and product quality. That is why we consider these aspects during the design development, not just at the end. We evaluate which materials and production methods suit the application, the brand, the production volume and the technical requirements. This creates solutions that are visually convincing, work well in use and can be produced economically.

How many design variants are typically developed?

The number of design variants depends on the project objective, budget and technically feasible options. We often start with several conceptual directions to make different possibilities visible. These variants are then evaluated together, refined and developed step by step with technical and marketing considerations in mind. This creates a clear decision-making process rather than an arbitrary set of options.

Which deliverables do I receive at the end?

The deliverables depend on the agreed project scope. Typical results include research and analysis documents, design strategies, sketches, concept variants, 3D models, renderings, prototypes, ergonomics and usability considerations, material and surface concepts, product graphics and design specifications for further technical implementation. If required, we also support you with visualisations, presentation material or marketing content for launch and sales.

Does PESCHKE also support with prototyping and testing?

Yes. Prototyping is an important part of many industrial design projects. Depending on the project, we work with simple mock-ups, functional models, VR models, 3D-printed parts, visualisations or realistic prototypes. These help to test proportions, ergonomics, operating sequences, technical details and design decisions early on, before high implementation costs arise.

How long does a typical industrial design project take?

The duration of an industrial design project depends heavily on the task, product complexity, coordination processes, prototyping requirements and technical depth. A compact redesign or design study can be completed much faster – for example within a few weeks – than a complete new development including research, variant development, prototyping and support during technical implementation. At the beginning, we therefore clarify the shared objectives, requirements and framework conditions together with the client in workshops in order to realistically assess the project scope and required resources.
