Human-centred design (HCD) is an approach to problem-solving for product or service design that focuses on understanding the end users’ needs, desires and behaviours. The HCD process involves engaging with users, stakeholders and experts to gain insights into their needs and experiences to then ideate and prototype solutions based on those insights, as well as testing and refining them through user feedback. The goal of HCD is to create products and services that improve people’s experiences and quality of life. HCD is often used in design areas such as product design and software development, but also in healthcare and public policy.
