A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is an industrial control system used to automate machines and processes. It processes input signals, executes programmed control logic and controls outputs and system components accordingly.

HMI and SCADA systems access PLC data to display process values and machine states to operators and transmit operator commands to the control system.
